JGC Engineering and technical services Ltd.
Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd transported specialised fabricated steel modular units from JGC T3 building in Janetstown to Scrabster harbour. The biggest unit was 7.1 m wide, 14.4 m long and 6.0 m high. The height of the trailer and load was 6.9 m.
The route was surveyed to make sure sufficient clearance is provided along the route, e.g. overhead cables removed, traffic signs and lamp posts turned to allow safe load movement.
The operations involved 3 police vehicles, 2 Hugh Simpson (Contractors) Ltd escort vehicles, 3 lorries, access equipment and a number of personnel undertaking spotters’ role.
Due to the width of the units, which encroached onto the pedestrian pathways the operations started at 04:00 hours in order to minimise pedestrian and traffic interaction.
The local police provided convoy.
In preparation to the transfer:
The modules were transported to Scrabster harbour where they were loaded onto a boat to continue journey to Belgium.
